        • Student Leadership

        The Student Union

Our Student Union is led by an elected President and Vice-President, who work as a team to represent the Sixth Form community.

The Union leads several committees within the Sixth Form, each of which has a Chair and a Vice-Chair, and is supported by a member of staff:

        • Charity
        • Wellbeing and Equality
        • Environment
        • Social
        • Curriculum

These committees meet at least every two weeks and report to the Sixth Form management team and Governors. This is important to us, as your voice matters. Everyone is welcome to attend the committee meetings and the Student Union leadership team are always keen to hear your ideas.

        National Union of Students

We are in the process of being affiliated with the National Union of Students. This will allow you to purchase an NUS card for £12 which will give you access to a huge variety of discounts: just another benefit of being part of the Union.

        Events

An important role of the Union is to organise events (both social and charity) within the Sixth Form. The social and charity committees work together to ensure that you have a calendar of events throughout the year to keep you busy.

        Wellbeing and Equality

Wellbeing, equality and diversity are taken very seriously at Abbeygate and the committee plays a pivotal role in this – working very closely with our designated team of SAMs to ensure that we listen and are pro-active with any issues that you may be having.

        Meet your Student Leadership Team

Aaron McIntyre (Year 12) Government & Politics, French, Economics and Mathematics

I was elected to be Student Union President on a basis of working for students and with students - and that is what I intend to do. Starting with a blank canvas in the new college, I am looking forward to shaping student voice and make positive changes in the wider community alongside my A Level study, including reforming tutor groups, expanding the social calendar and introducing "Chip Friday, Every Friday."

Katherine Nash (Year 13) Drama & Theatre Studies, English Literature and History

As a Year 13 student, I have seen first-hand the challenges our Year groups have faced this past year, and I believe it’s vital that we have opportunities to have our say. As Student Union Vice-President, I hope I can help to create a space that is inclusive, vocal and convicted for all students to voice their opinions on what they feel the college should embody.

        Abbeygate Ambassadors

Alongside the Student Union, the Sixth Form is also represented by our Student Ambassadors. These students:

        • Represent the College at open events, tours with parents and prospective students and local events
        • Act as a role model for both current and prospective students
        • Embody College ethos and values
        • Take an active role in community events
        • Support and lead within subject areas

This year, we have 20 students that were selected from a round of written applications and interviews to act as Abbeygate Ambassadors.

        Meet your Abbeygate Ambassadors

Emily North (Year 12) Biology, Chemistry and French

I'm passionate about my subjects, particularly French. As an Ambassador, I hope to inspire and help students with their subjects and promote the amazing facilities and teaching we have at Abbeygate.

Ella Rollinson (Year 12) German, English Language and Philosophy & Ethics

Hello, I'm Ella, and the thing I love doing is making a positive difference, so my aim as an Ambassador is to help make our academic environment as ideal as possible for all students and staff!

Natalie Armijos (Year 12) Psychology, Sociology, Media Studies and Spanish

I have always loved learning new things every day and playing football and helping others as much as I can. Being bilingual has helped me to achieve many things by becoming more flexible with my time and being creative and open-minded to new things. I’m never afraid to do anything new.

Blythe-Evie Kellet (Year 12) Government & Politics, Business and Geography

I’m extremely interested in politics and would love to go into that field of work after school. I’m a big people’s person and love educating people, especially on Tourette’s syndrome.

Hannah Walker (Year 13) Chemistry, Biology and French

I chose to be an Abbeygate ambassador because I want to help shape our Sixth Form College to be the place we want it to be. I'm studying Chemistry, Biology and French as, although my passion lies in the sciences, I also love the challenge of learning another language and immersing myself in another culture. I'm hoping to study Medicine at university.

Kacper Ciezki (Year 12) Modern History, Biology and German

I am very passionate and interested in my subjects and my out-of-school interest in boxing. As an Ambassador, I want to inspire people and ensure that all subject areas are well represented and our amazing school is able to show the community just how great it really is.

Darcy Stayton (Year 12) Law, Sociology and Government & Politics

Hi, my name is Darcy. I aim to represent Abbeygate and become actively involved in helping the College become a key part of the community.

Millie Gee (Year 12) Chemistry, Biology and Maths

I study Chemistry, Biology and Maths. I am excited to be an Ambassador because I am enthusiastic about my subjects and hope to help students in any way I can with theirs.

Kiera Forde (Year 12) Geography, English Language and Philosophy & Ethics

My name is Keira Forde and I became an Ambassador so I could represent the school and organise charitable events.

Hannah Shipp (Year 12) Psychology, Biology and Criminology

Hello, I’m very passionate about my subject areas and always enjoy talking about them. I hope as a Student Ambassador I am able to spread that passion among other students, and I am determined to help anyone that asks for it however I can, whether that be a student, teacher or staff.

Shaimaa Mohssine (Year 12) Spanish, French and Psychology

Hello, my name is Shaimaa and I love learning about different cultures and languages. I am excited to be an Ambassador because I enjoy working with others.

Maddie Hook (Year 12) Maths, Philosophy and Early Modern History

I love helping people so I'm very excited to be an Ambassador and to be a part of the school community.

Sam Barber (Year 12) Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics

I'm quite mathematical and scientific, so I like to approach problems logically, as well as being someone who's a good listener and communicator, which makes me feel as if I'm easy to approach. I enjoy climbing, which is a combination of logic and communication, and I can be creative too, having played the piano for over half my life.

Harvey Tilley (Year 13) Maths, Chemistry, Psychology and EPQ

I am excited to be an Ambassador as I want to act as a role model to students. I am aspiring to be a Clinical Psychologist as I want to help others. Aside from school, I like socialising and I also enjoy music.

Aru Sinha (Year 13) Maths, Further Maths, Economics and Computer Science

I am someone who aspires to make College an enjoyable place for all where people are heard. I am planning to do Maths at university.

Harsh Kulshrestha (Year 12) Chemistry, Maths and Biology

I enjoy studying STEM with plans to go into Biochemistry at university. As an Ambassador, I am helpful and supportive to everyone.

Maddie Atkinson (Year 12) Drama, Philosophy & Ethics and Sociology

I applied for the role of Abbeygate Ambassador as I think it’s important, not only as representative of the school but also a communicator and supporter of both students and their teachers in their educational relationships and with all aspects of their school lives.

I like to think that I have a positive outlook as both an individual and as a member of various groups within Year 12 itself. I am a approachable, friendly and hardworking student who enjoys personal challenges and achieving success as part of a larger group. At Abbeygate Sixth Form, I am studying Drama, Philosophy & Ethics and Sociology whilst also completing an EPQ (extended project qualification) surrounding the importance of Girlguiding. In the future, I want to study Drama and Theatre studies at university in hopes of becoming a drama teacher.

Madison Payne (Year 12) Chemistry, Biology, Early Modern History and EPQ

As an Ambassador, I want to help shine a light on not only my own subjects which are Biology, Chemistry and History, but also the wider college offer. I have really enjoyed my transition to Sixth Form and have found all the staff really welcoming. Therefore, I am keen to share my experiences with others I think I am able to articulate the College ethos in a friendly and positive way which I hope will make the next steps for potential students easier.

Freya Howlett (Year 12) Philosophy & Ethics, Art and Early Modern History

I hope to be able to bring a eco-awareness to the Ambassador role during my time here at Abbeygate.

Currently, I am studying Philosophy & Ethics, Art and Early Modern History. I am not sure what I want to study after I finish College, however I know I would like to travel.

Emily White (Year 12) Biology, English Literature, PE and EPQ

I study PE, Biology and English Literature. As an Ambassador, I am sociable and easy approachable. I am hoping to study a sports science course at university when I leave Abbeygate.

Dylan Thompson (Year 12) Music, Music Technology and Drama

Hi, my name is Dylan Thompson, and I am a student at Abbeygate studying Music, Music Technology and Drama, so you could say that I am "the performing arts kid" and that element I want to bring into a role as an Ambassador for the subjects I am most passionate about: Music and Music Technology.

I would also love the chance to appear in discussions and express my points and views to other Ambassadors and work together to make a smooth community at Abbeygate.
