WOW! (World of Work)

WOW (World of Work) festivals are a series of monthly European Social Fund supported sector-focused events based at the University and Professional Development Centre of the Eastern Colleges Group, Western Way, Bury St Edmunds (what3words: ///campus.branch.unwind).

Each event provides mentoring, networking and lecture opportunities that bring students face-to-face with business and industry professionals. 

Participants will be inspired to explore career paths, employment and work placement opportunities and gain advice and insight into progression routes for both study and the World of Work.

Earth, Ecology and Environmental Careers - Thursday 3 November 2022

WOW (World of Work) festivals are a series of monthly European Social Fund supported sector-focused events based at the University and Professional Development Centre of the Eastern Colleges Group, Western Way, Bury St Edmunds.

Each event provides mentoring, networking and lecture opportunities that bring students face-to-face with business and industry professionals.

Participants will be inspired to explore career paths, employment and work placement opportunities and gain advice and insight into progression routes for both study and the World of Work.

Level 3 and above students from across the Eastern Colleges Group and beyond will also be targeted to support our Access Participation Plan in furthering University study by exposing potential students to an experience of higher education excellence, delivered in and around our state-of-the-art XR (Extended Reality) lab.

8.30am: Student and business networking breakfast exclusively for University Studies at West Suffolk College students.

9.30am onwards: Level 3 and A Level students will join the event for a variety of exhibitor stands, industry-relevant taster talks and mentoring opportunities.

1pm: Three invited sector-relevant keynote speakers will deliver sequential half-hour lectures and Q&A sessions from our cutting-edge XR lab. 3pm end.

An Arts, Creative and Expressive Industries and Humanities happening! - Thursday 1 December 2022

WOW (World of Work) festivals are a series of monthly European Social Fund supported sector-focused events based at the University and Professional Development Centre of the Eastern Colleges Group, Western Way, Bury St Edmunds.

These sector-focused events provide mentoring and networking opportunities to bring students face-to-face with professionals to explore work placements, career paths and gain advice and insight into progression routes for study (UCAS). This ‘happening’ will offer a chance for students to meet with producers, artists, gallerists, curators, industry insiders and also experience performances, presentations, screenings and exhibitions from expressive practitioners across the spectrum of the creative World of Work.

1pm: exhibitions open half an hour before University Studies at West Suffolk College, Level 3 and A Level students will join three invited sector relevant keynote speakers as they deliver sequential 30-minute lectures from our cutting-edge XR Lab.

3 to 6pm: Loop screenings of our award-winning ‘Maximus’ short film and behind-the-scenes preview of ‘The Sheriff’ created by our Level 4 Film and Media students.

4pm to 9pm: Orchestral performance and guests from the world of literature open the main stage in Hangar 1, followed by performances from all genres of music, special guests and homegrown acts.
