Work has begun on Abbeygate Sixth Form College!

Wates Contractors have started work on the site of Abbeygate Sixth Form College. The new, innovative state of the art building will open in September 2020 and will follow plans by architects Jestico + Whiles.

The new Sixth Form College will be sited on the upper playing field of King Edward VI School in Bury St Edmunds and will be accessed from Beetons Way. A flythrough of the new building can be seen here: www.abbeygatesfc.ac.uk/about-us/building

In addition, all teachers for the new Sixth Form College have been appointed. Two prominent positions have been filled by well know figures from King Edward VI School.

Stuart Small, who is the current Assistant Headteacher (Head of Sixth Form), will be Abbeygate’s Director of Curriculum and Abbi Thorpe, who is the current Sixth Form Co-ordinator will be the Student Services Manager.

Abbeygate Sixth Form College will be a centre of academic excellence, providing students with high quality learning and an unparalleled breadth of choice and opportunity. The College will offer more than 30 A Level courses to 16-19 year olds from across the whole of West Suffolk and beyond. The College will be located in designated accommodation at West Suffolk College for the first academic year.
