Suffolk Academies Trust

One and West Suffolk College officially joined forces on Tuesday 1 September 2015, through the formation of a new charitable trust called the Suffolk Academies Trust.

The exciting and visionary collaboration between One and West Suffolk College is set to transform the educational landscape for young people across Suffolk, by strengthening access to outstanding post-16 education.

Dr Nikos Savvas, Principal of West Suffolk College said, “We are fully committed to the people of this region and our role in driving quality and providing first class education across the county. I’m delighted that through the formation of the Suffolk Academies Trust and our collaboration with One, we can work together to deliver an outstanding education for young people across Suffolk.”

“By joining forces, we are in a uniquely strong position to raise standards and enhance the learning opportunities across the region; from the east to west of the county. It’s an exciting chapter, and I’m very much looking forward to it,” he added.

One Principal, Alan Whittaker, said, “We want to offer more opportunities and resources to our students and staff. This exciting new alliance will allow us to do this.”

“We are the largest sixth form in Ipswich and our recent ‘outstanding’ Ofsted report shows that we are going into this union from a position of strength and being part of the Suffolk Academies Trust will only add to what is already a high performing institution.”

“Overall though it’s very much business as usual. Day to day workings of both educational establishments won’t change,” he added.
